Suicidal Behavior Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Suicidal Behavior - Case Study Example Nevertheless, I have established the following cause and effect relationship for the suicidal case: Family related - an abusive father with grave personal issues such as gambling addiction (p. 86); a self-destructive mother who eventually died leaving the children to fend for themselves (p. 86); a sister as a source of envy (p. 88). Suicidal tendencies common in the family (p. 86). Self related - attempt to make people around feel guilty; tendency to blame self for the miseries happening around her (p. 95). The narrator also had the feeling of being powerless of saving the parent whom he loved very much (p. 93). Society related - being a woman at that time (stated to be 1972) was disadvantageous because of the concept of man as superior than his partner. (p. 92). There was also a lack of effectiveness for the support and rescue system such as tranquilizers only causing lethargy, uninspired trainee psychiatrist and ignorant love of nuns at the convent school (p. 85). The Cause and Effect analysis reveals many important points for the determination of the suicidal tendencies. Foremost of the reason is the abusive father who found it appropriate to make his children suffer as he did. He had a hard background and the pressure of supporting his children and his mentally challenged wife was too much for him to bear. He saw his family as people who made him suffer and so he must make them suffer. Backed by the notion that the man is the head of the family, he could have deemed it fit to treat to make his family recognize his superior masculinity, albeit, to a serious and violent degree. The patriarchal system pervading the period was also providing the justification for the abusive act. Self-destruction it appears runs in the family. The mother and sister had it as well as the narrator. However, it becomes more important to point out that such unfortunate situation can be more attributed to the unfortunate life that their parents had. The narrator's mother fended for herself at the young age of 10 while the father was forced to work and forget schooling. Misery for those misfortunes made itself known thru violence. There is also a cause and effect relationship for her survival. It is as follows: 1. Narrator successfully repressing her suicidal tendency Family related - fond memories for her mother who taught her the value of cheerfulness; a newfound sibling relationship with her

Benefits of Risk Management, Risk Management Frameworks Assignment

Benefits of Risk Management, Risk Management Frameworks - Assignment Example Importance of Risk Management Risk Management is extremely crucial because it helps the decision-making process regarding viability and competitiveness between organizations. It also helps in the creation of value which is the main factor to manage the business better in global markets when all organizations have equal access to available resources because then business processes to congregate on international standards. Operational efficiency can be increased by having plans for risk management already in place because it enables a business to do more for less. This means putting aside resources from regular expenditures in making strategic investments which will support company goals. A large percentage of the budget is spent on keeping the business running. Progressive organizations must have contingency plans to develop and expand resource deployment and implementation which will spare resources to concentrate on risk management strategies. (Mes 2010). Benefits of Risk Management Risk is always associated with insecurity and improbabilities with the possibility of things not turning out as expected. The benefits of risk management are that the organization is fully prepared for such eventualities and has a mechanism in place to handle risks and minimize losses. It is not possible to totally eliminate all risks, so good risk management develops awareness of risks when times are good, and perpetuates regulations and self-control during crises (Raz and Michael 2001). The benefits of risk management can be both long and short term. Accordingly, each stage of risk management efforts beginning from risk identification and evaluation and formulating alleviation or improvement strategies has its own benefits (Miller 1992). Question 2: Compare and contrast Management of Risk with another risk management framework (such as that offered in chapter 7 of Project Management by Larson and Gray), highlighting the similarities and differences between them.

At some given value of an input, the derivative tells us the linear estimate of the function, which is close to

Organizing and Controlling are Related Essay Example for Free

Organizing and Controlling are Related Essay Functions of management consist of organizing, planning, controlling, staffing, delegation and leading. (Koontz Weihrich, 2000). These functions work together simultaneously as one can assist in the functioning of the other hence all managerial functions are important for the function. By this the opinion is that the function of organizing and controlling are related. These functions are implemented in the same direction. In order to show the relation between organizing and controlling, it is important to look into the functions of both of them. Organizing function comes into play when people work together in groups to achieve goals. They must have roles that they play. These roles are developed by people, are defined and structured by the organization to make sure what is contributed is a group effort. What workers do has a definite purpose and they know how their job objective fits into group effort hence the organization gives their authority, tools, information to accomplish the task. Organizing is that part of managing that involves establishing a structure of roles for people to fill in an organization. The purpose of an organization structure is to help in creating an environment for human performance. (Gareth, 2003). A structure will define the tasks to be done, the role established looking at abilities and motivation of the people available. The organization structure make it easy for managers to organize workers’ activities hence it will be easy to control them as each one know the role they should play, which makes supervision of work less, which saves time as well as resources of the organization. By organizing, the organizations must identity and clarify required activities, group activities necessary to attain objective, assign each group to a manager with authority necessary to supervise it and provision for coordination on the same level and among departments in the organization structure, which make controlling of activities manageable. Organization structure should clearly state who is to do what tasks and who is responsible for what results to eliminate difficulties while exercising control function because difficulties can be caused by confusions and uncertainty of assignment. The structure must reflect objectives and plans because activities come from them. It must also reflect the authority available to an enterprise management. It must be designed to work to permit contributions by members of a group and to assist people gain objectives effectively in the future, which is changing. An organization is staffed with people, the groupings of activities and the authority relationships of an organization structure must take into account people’s limitations and customs to be able to control their roles so as to know if the organization goals are being achieved. The organization process consists of establishing enterprise objectives, formulating supporting objectives, policies and plans, which are of planning. Also identifying and classifying the activities necessary to accomplish these, grouping activities in the light of the human and material resources available and the best way, under the circumstances, of using them, delegating to the head of each group the authority necessary to perform the activities and tying the groups together horizontally and vertically through authority relationships and information flows. Koontz Weihrich, 2000). The span of management is influenced in two ways, narrow span where a great deal of time is spent with subordinates, which is related to little training, inadequate authority delegation, unclear plan of non-repetitive operations, fast changes in external and internal environment, complex task, use of poor communication techniques, ineffective meeting. (Black Porter, 2000). The wide span is where little time is spent with subordinates and is related to thorough subordinate training, clear delegation to undertake well-defined tasks, well defined plans for repetitive operations and slow changes in external and internal environment, simple task and effective meetings. If the organization wants to use the controlling function effectively, it can use the wide span management. Delegation of authority, if it is poor, it will affect the span of management due to unclear authority hence organizing can be difficult, which can make the controlling function difficult as they function simultaneously. If a manager delegates authority clearly for a task to be undertaken, a well trained subordinate can get it done with the manager little supervision, but if the task is not clearly defined, then the subordinate does not have the authority to undertake it, which can lead to the staff not doing it and hence the manager spending a lot of time supervising it. Staffing is done by identifying workforce requirements, getting the required people who are available and recruiting them, selecting, placing, appraising, compensation, planning the careers and training. (Preble, 1992). If staffing is done effectively, the candidates will be developed as the current jobholders to be able to accomplish their tasks effectively and efficiently. If the candidates are given the right roles hence it will be through controlling that managers compare actual performance against goals, identify any significant deviations and take necessary corrective action. Leading assists in influencing people so that they contribute to organization and group goals. Managers can say that their problems arise from people, their desire, attitude, and behavior. (Robbins Coulter, 2002). Since leadership implies followers hip and people tend to follow those who offer a mean of satisfying their own needs, wishes and desires. Leading involves motivation, leadership styles and communication. With no effective leading in an organization it can be very difficult to organize the employees and this will affect the controlling function as reports, statement produced to access control might have mistakes. Planning involves selecting mission and objectives and the actions to achieve them. It requires decision-making that is, choosing future causes of action from among alternatives. Jones George, 2003). Plans range from plans of overall purposes and objectives to the most detailed action to be taken. Before a decision is made, only what exists is a plan study or a proposal not a real plan. Controlling activity relate to the measurement of achievement. Some mean of controlling like the budget, inspection records, each measure and show whether plans are working out making organizing easy. Compelling events to confirm to plans means locating the persons who are responsible for results to differ from planned action and taking necessary step to improve performance. These results are controlled by what people do. Control is where performance is measured and corrective action is taken to ensure the accomplishment of organization goals. Control also coordinates various activities, decision-making related to planning and organizing activities and information from directing and evaluating each worker’s performance. Control is concerned with records, reports, organizational progress toward aims as well as effective use of resources. Control uses evaluation and regulation. These reports are what assist in assigning roles to employees. Control uses evaluation and regulation. It can be separated into mechanical and sociological elements. There are three stages of control. The mechanical elements are predetermined definition of standards for a level of performance; measurement of current performance against the standards and corrective action when indicated is the sociological element. If an organization uses the three stages of control, it will have a flexible organization structure. The best approach of control will contain time, a high degree of mutual support, open and authentic communication, clear understanding of objective, utilization of resources and a supportive environment. These approaches will lead to conflict resolution, charged beliefs and attitudes, genuine innovation, commitment, strong management and prevention of consequence of control, which were unintended. A good control system has the following characteristics; it must reflect the nature of the activity, should report errors promptly, should be forward looking, it should point out exceptions at critical points, should be objective, flexible, reflect the organization pattern, economical, understanding and should indicate corrective action. With these conditions adhered to, it will be fast to organize people in the organization so as to meet the organization goals. Controlling mechanisms include procedures, evaluating devices, reports, inspection, audits, which all require planning and organizing hence the function must be performed simultaneously. For controlling to occur, there must be directing. All functions of management go together as if one of the functions lacks or does not follow the proper channel then the organization goals can fail to be achieved. Control can be used as a management tool to measure the degree to which predetermined goals are achieved and of applying necessary corrective actions to improve performance, policies, and procedure as standards. Among the controls are rules that are needed to let employees know what is expected of them and how functions are coordinated. Self-control includes being up to date in knowledge, giving clear orders, being flexible, helping others improve increasing problem solving skill, being able to handle pressure and planning ahead. Delegation is often viewed as a major means of influence and therefore, it can be grouped as an activity in leading rather than controlling. Delegation include assigning responsibility to an employee to complete a task granting the employee sufficient authority to gain the resource to do the task and letting the employee decide how that task will be carried out. This will make the organization decide which goals to pursue and course of action to adopt so as to attain the organization goals and how to allocate organization resources to attain those goals. Once the organization has established goals and associated strategies, funds are set aside for the resources and labor to the accomplishment of goals and tasks. As the money is spent, how it was spent and what it obtained. Review of financial statements is one of the more common methods to monitor the progress of programs and plans. In the organizing process, the key issue in accomplishing the goals identified in the planning process is structuring the work of the organization. The purpose of the organizing function is to make the best use of the organization’s resources to achieve organizational goals. Organizational structure is the formal decision-making framework by which job tasks are grouped and coordinated. The organizing function deals with all those activities that result in the formal assignment of tasks and authority and a coordination of effort. The supervisor staffs the work units, trains employees, secures resources and empowers the work group into a productive team. The first step in the organizing process is departmentalization. Once jobs have been classified through work specialization, they are grouped into manageable units and can be controlled. An organization chart displays the organization structure and shows job titles, lines of authority and relationships between departments. The nature and scope of the work needed to accomplish the organization goals needed to determine work classification and work unit design, so as to have control. Work process requirements and employee skill level determine the degree of specialization. Placing capable people in each job ties directly with productivity improvement. In order to maximize productivity, the organization must have the required resources and be able to control its expenditure by auditing its reports. Supervisors must match employee skill levels with task requirement to achieve organization goals. Teamwork is achievable if people can work together cooperatively and effective if they know the part they are to play in the team activity and the way their roles relate to each other hence making the control function attainable. By designing and maintaining these systems of roles is organizing. Koontz, 1958). The effort spent on improving predictions and forecasts are spent on increasing control, learning not only will the need for predicting and forecast be reduced, but managers’ ability to get what they want to increase. By organizing managers can design and create an organization structure, which is flexible to enable the function of control to be handled properly. Control aspects are emphasized on the basis of observation of the control process in terms of feedback or adaptive control. (Hitt Mathis, 1986). Feedback is always introduced as one of the controlling functions, hence managers encourage that the feedback system be used a lot in the organization so as to know which organization goals have been achieved. Feedback is a type of control that takes place after a work activity is done. Managers can implement controls before an activity begins and after the activity has been completed. In order to measure whether plans of the organizations are being followed it is necessary for managers to compare planned performance with actual performance. (Ishikawa Smith, 1972). Feedback can be used to give information in this area, as it is the forward and backward flow of information hence the supervisor will be able to know how the performance of a certain employee is. This will enable the supervisor check on the targets he sets for the employees if they have all been achieved or if they have been partly achieved and see the gap created. (Dixon, 2003). The actual performance and the planned performance show the gap. This will make it easy for the organization to determine which employees require training so as to get more skills and by this the organization will eliminate the gap. Plans cannot be effective unless managers monitor how well planned actions are matching actual achievements as implementation processes. Therefore, plans should not be just laid aside while being on the process or even after being decided on. Managers are responsible not only for making plans for the organizational goal but also for watching the plans to the end. Hence, to make sure that plans are organized the control function has to be effective to make sure that organization goals are achieved. If managers do not control, they would have no way of knowing whether their goals and plans were on target and what future actions to take. The plan can be meaningless if it did not help to accomplish the organizational goals. This can be avoided by controlling because the manager organizes and compares the actual performance against the goals, identify any significant deviations and take any necessary corrective action. Controlling provides the answers to whether or not the current performance of the organization should be continued or what corrections might be needed to make the performance satisfactory. Controlling cannot be implemented unless there is some resource hence the organization should have a structure, which takes this into consideration. There must be some organization and control on how resources will be allocated. Without an organization goal, no management functions can be put into practice. If the manager does not know which direction the company is going, they cannot choose what course of action to take hence controlling will be difficult. It seems that controlling is regarded as looking back considering the main role of controlling, which are feedback and monitoring. Managers can put controls when an activity begins. If the actual performance of employees in an organization is not as expected then plans and goals have to be set so that they are put in the right way. For control to work if the plans put in place by the organization are going in the wrong directions the manager needs to indicate the problem and also suggest how to solve it. The manager should also explain how the plan should be proceeded and guide toward the right direction. This will make it easy for the person organizing activities of the workers as workers will be given the roles they are able to achieve hence making organization goals attainable. The main role of planning is choosing appropriate goals and courses of action and controlling is monitoring systems to evaluate how well the organization has achieved its goal. Planning process steps include deciding which goals the organization will pursue, deciding what courses of actions to adopt to attain these goals and deciding how to allocate organization resources to attain these goals. Considering that organizing process looks at accomplishing goals identified in the planning process it will be good for an organization to evaluate the performance of employees so as to check if the goals are being attainable and if they do not look attainable performance assessment should be carried out as well as regulation of other activities, which can be time consumed due to lack of skills by the employees should be eliminated. In conclusion if managers are keen on the organization structure that the organization adopts be it flat, tall, product, geographical to make sure that the one implemented caters for the organization goals as well as objectives. The control function can be used to generate reports and audits will be done effectively in less time. This shows that control and organizing function has to work parallel for the effective achievement of organization goals.

Evaluation of the Viability of the Sukuk

Evaluation of the Viability of the Sukuk This proposal aims to evaluate the current status and the viability of the Islamic financial Securities such as Sukuk as an alternative of the conventional financial securities like Eurobond in the context of the current financial crisis. I will outline the overall aims and objective of the research and discuss the various studies on growth of Islamic finance and decline of conventional finance in the background of the financial crisis. This paper will reflect an overall structure of the whole proposal. SIGNIFICANT FOR THE RESEARCH In the financial global market, the Islamic financial services sector is analysed to be gown at double digit rate(Bley Kuehn, 2005), involving over 200 financial institutions with assets estimated to exceed US$ 200 billion(Al-Dhahiri et al, 2003). Researchers (Hamwi Aylward, 1999) already has recognised that over the last decade, Islamic banking and finance has experienced global growth rates of 10-15 percent per annum, and has been moving into an increasing number of conventional financial systems at such a rapid pace that Islamic financial institutions are present today in over 51 countries (Sole, 2007 pp:1). This research is aimed at investigating the practicability of the Islamic Financial system as an alternative to the traditional financial system especially in the context of the recent financial crisis. The fast growth of Islamic banking and finance raises different important questions: Is the development in Islamic banking and finance a result of the comparative advantages of the Islamic banking concept or is it largely attributable to the worldwide Islamic recovery since the late 1960s (Chong Liu, 2007). The fact that Islamic laws forbid paying and receiving interest promote all parties in a financial transaction to share the risk and profit or loss of the project (Qorchi, 2005). In an Islamic contract the output and the quality of the project, ensures a more equitable distribution of wealth (Qorchi, 2005). AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The overall aim of this research is to review and evaluate significant growth of Islamic finance and financial securities as an alternative of the traditional financial system and financial securities which led to the current financial crisis. The objectives of the research can be further identified as: (1). the recognition of the basic concepts of conventional and Islamic financial system. (2). How did studies deal with financial crisis and its effect on the traditional and Islamic banking system. (3). what are the effects of current financial crisis on traditional bond market? (4). How does the Islamic Finance response to the crisis? (5). Is Islamic Securities à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¢Sukukà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬â€œ feasible? (6). If Islamic Sukuk is feasible then can it replace the traditional Eurobonds? (7). If it is not feasible then can it co-exist with the traditional Eurobonds? Overview Conventional Financial system Everyone has to contact with the financial system and everyone is very well aware of the financial institution like banks, building securities, and insurance companies, each providing in its own way for every day needs, such as payment facilities through banks, convenient savings and access to home loans from building societies, and car, house, or life insurance. The other financial markets, like the Stock exchange where the securities are bought and sold, are an important market though very few are directly concerned with their activities (Van Harne, 1990). All these financial institutions and markets fit together into a network which comprises the financial system or conventional financial system (Brian, 1992). The conventional financial system based on debt and the fixed rate of interest. The borrower in gaining the high fixed returns may get default as these bonds and corporate securities are not backed by the assets or gold. The burden and all risk are transferred on the issuer. Therefore in try to get high returns and greed of getting more financial share the conventional borrower and mortgage prices went up which result in the drying up the financial market and major companies got default. Islamic Financial System The Islamic financial system makes possible lending, borrowing and investment functions on a risk-sharing basis (Ishaq Mansoor, 2008). Islamic finance is fundamentally different from the conventional finance model as it is based on a profit and loss structure (PLS), which requires that a financial institution invest with a client in order to finance their needs, rather than lending money to the client. Because of the inherent risk involved in an investment, the financial institution is entitled to profit from the financial transaction (IBID). (SBP, 2007). Islamic banking and finance industry has been making breakthrough developments to become a truly feasible and competitive alternative to conventional systems at the global level as an industry adding more ethical, competitive, flexible and diversified tools and systems to global financial marketsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬â€œ (Ishaq Mansoor, 2008 pp: 708). The need for Islamic banking is prompted by three considerations: (a). An Islamic investor should keep away from alliance with industries forbidden to Muslims: such as; alcohol, gambling, pornography, meat packing (of pork), weapons production, and liquor. (b). An Islamic enterprise is advised to avoid interest (riba), as well as gambling, and, accordingly, constraints exist on transactions involved in debt securities and in futures and options. (c). Many Muslim investors tend to be attracted to enterprises monitoring the Islamic ethical and moral standards (Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"Sullivan, 1996). The Islamic finance industry has grown by about 15 percent on average over the last three years, with more than US$500 billion now lodged in Islamic banks, mutual funds, insurance schemes (takaful), and Islamic branches of conventional banks (Jobst, Kunzel, Mills, Sy, 2008). Islamic Law prohibits charging interest (Rajesh, K.A Yousaf, T., 2000). Islamic banking is currently practiced in more than 51 countries worldwide. In countries such as, Iran, Pakistan, and Sudan, only Islamic banking is practiced whereas other countries, such as Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan and Malaysia, Islamic banking co-exists with conventional banking (Chong Liu, 2007). Therefore Islamic banking, is not limited to Islamic countries as In August 2004, the Islamic Bank of Britain became the first bank licensed by a non-Muslim country to engage in Islamic banking (Chong Liu, 2007). SUKUK Islamic securities have become increasingly popular in over the last five years, both as a means of raising government finance through sovereign issues, and as a way of companies obtaining funding through the offer of corporate Sukuk (Wilson, R., 2008) as Sukuk is to be use as a tool for liquidity management (Wilson. R., 2008), the Sukuk market continues to generate strong interest by new issuers in Muslim and non-Muslim countries. Sukuk (plural of Sakk) are commonly referred to as an Islamic bond, but a more precise translation of the Arabic word would be an Islamic investment certificateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"(Thomas, 2005). The Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) defines the Investment Sukuk as a certificates of equal value representing undivided shares in ownership of tangible assets, usufructs and services or (in the ownership of) the assets of particular projects or special investment activityà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"(Norman, T.,2009). Sukuk is an Islamic financial certificate, similar to a bond in Western finance that complies with Sharia, Islamic religious law. As the traditional Western interest paying bond structure is not permissible, the issuer of a Sukuk sells an investor group the certificate, who then rents it back to the issuer for a predetermined rental fee. The issuer also makes a contractual promise to buy back the bonds at a future date at par value (investropedia, 2009). Sukuk are monetised real assets (converting a government debt into available currency, especially issuing securities, that are liquid (easy to convert into cash), easily transferred and traded in the financial market (Adam, 2006). Likewise the Eurobonds are also liquid assets which are marketable and accepted by all the investors (www.independent.co.uk, 2005). Eurobonds are issued by a government, company shows potential to repay borrowed money at a fixed rate of interest at a specific time. Eurobonds are liquid and trusted bonds as it is backed by a fixed interest rate (ibid). Sukuk can be examined without any difficulty by international and regional rating agencies which facilitate their marketability (Adam, 2006). Likewise the Eurobonds are easily rated by the rating agency as these rating agencies rate these securities on the basis of the liquidity and the liabilities not on the basis of the religion and ethics (Standard Poorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"s, 2009). As the agencies do not rate the securities on the basis of the religion, rather securities are rated on the basis of the quality and the ability of obligator to meet the obligations (ibid). Same like the similarities in the Islamic and conventional financial securities, there are few differences as well, and on the basis of that one system can be preferred on the other system. Starting from the type, the conventional financial Security is a debenture bond whereas the Sukuk are the Secured securities. Debenture bonds are those securities that is unsecured corporate bond by any mortgage, dependent on the credit of the issuer (Dictionary Reference.com, 2009). Whereas the Sukuk are backed by the real assets such as they are attached with the assets which can be turned into tradable in the future or can be replaced by the real assets (Richardson Abdl-Khaleq, 2007). Eurobonds are paper bonds whereas the Sukuk securities are really assets based security which have potential to convert the security into tradable asset in future. Secondly, the major difference in Sukuk and conventional bond is the right of ownership. As Sukuk represent the ownership opportunity in existing or well described assets whereas conventional bond represent pure debt on the issuer (Adam, 2006). LITRATURE REVIEW The relative success of the Islamic finance is remarkable (Bley Kuehn, 2005)as islamic finance institution are making progress with the grwoth rate of 15-18% which is double the average growth rate of conventional finacial institutions (Saifi, 2004). We will discuss A review of the litrature on traditional financial system (TFS)and Islamic financial system( IFS) and the security markets. That is devided into sections as will be reviewing the litrature on the decline of the popularity of the TFS and the growth of the IFS over the last two decades. The litrature review basically discuss information of three area on which research will be carried: (a) traditional banking system and its downfall, (b) islamic financial system and its growth, and (c) the empirical investigation of the feasibility of islamic financial securities to alternate the traditional finacial bonds to raise funds for the projects. BACKGROUND FOR STUDY The current collapse of banking and financial institutions raised a question as interest rate has long been recognized not only by classical and neo-classical economists but also by contemporary economists as one of the factors that determine the level of savings in the economy. Although there are cases of inconsistent findings, it is a generally accepted opinion that interest rate has a positive relationship with savings (Ahmad Haron, 1999). Generally, financial institutions perform two functions; one is to collect deposits and the other is to issue loans (Toutounchian, 1996). Depositors are guaranteed a predetermined return on the nominal value of the deposit by the bank even in most of the cases the deposits are insured (ibid). Hence it can be argued that the traditional financial system plays a passive role in the economy, is operating to face any economic fluctuations (ibid). It is argued that in these banks since the nominal value of the deposits is guaranteedshocks that can lead to banking crisis can cause divergence between real assets and real liabilities and it is not clear how this equilibrium would be corrected and how long the process of adjustment would takeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬â€œ (Mohsin, 1985). This is the real essence of fund intermediary function of a traditional finance (Toutounchian, 1996). Islamic finance can simply be defined that it is based on the basic principle of the prohibition of the riba as Islamic institutions does not charge interest but rather participates in the yield resulting from the use of the funds( Lewis Algaoud, 2001). Ebrahim Safadi ( 1995) advocates that islamic finance operations are according to the profit and loss sharing principle which are superior financial security to debt for many reasons including risk sharing of the equities (Hamwi Aylward, 1999. Liu Chong(2007) are of the view that the islamic finance is not different from the conventional finance as the unique feature Profit and Loss sharing (PLS) practically is very similar to the TFS as islamic financial products based on the PLS are not interest free beacuse pegged to conventional deposits(ibid). On the other hand the basic pillar of the conventional financial system is interest rate and fixed income securities have been accepted globally in raising finance for funding large development and capital expenditures (Usmani, 2006). A fixed income security is an investment which provides a return in the form of fixed periodic payments and ultimate returns of principal at maturity (Usmani, 2006). The motivations of firms that issue global bonds is particularly to test whether firms are motivated to offer bonds in multi-markets to raise more capital, take benefit of being well-known in foreign markets and owing to poor domestic economic conditions (Tawatnuntachai Yaman, 2008). The bond market robustness converts into depression when financial crisis which started in 2007 has created the greatest financial dislocation since the Great Depression of the 1930s (Melvin Taylor, 2009). The Eurobond which are based on fix interest rate and guaranteed of fixed return failed to impress the investors in an auction (Kaminska, 2009). In addition, the loans rate set in the fixed income market will have large effect on the demand for properties, and thereby prices, one would strongly believe that securitised property prices are determined by the interest rate changes rather than the stock market (Cheong, Wilson, Zurbruegg, 2009). Financial markets are intergrated now a days and no single economy can avoid the effect of the financial crisis (Chapra, 2007). If the financial system is not responsible for the crisies then why there is a general nervous feeling that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¢something is wrong with the financial systemà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬â€œ (Stiglitz, 2003, p: 54 On the other hand, the Islamic finance manages the affair without involving the pre-agreed interest payment and receipts that replace the interest-based intermediation between the borrower and the lender with profit and loss sharing and equity based link (Bhatti Khan, 2009). CURRENT FINANCIAL CRISIS The credit crunch refers to a sudden shortage of funds for lending, leading to a resulting decline in loans available (Blog, 2008). A Credit Crunch can occur for various reasons such as sudden increase in interest rate, direct money controls by the governments and a drying up of funds in the capital market (Blog, 2008). The crisis started in 2008 in US supreme mortgage market and widely spread all over the world which raised a question that why this has system collapsed which leads the splillover effects from US sub- prime crisis to UK by far the most transparent and worrying for the authorities that exposed the tension between the central banks with respect to the provision of liquidity support facilities, the difficulties inherent in the economy for dealing with the banking crisis, defects in banking economy regulation and supervision and the glaring flaws in deposit protection arrangements (Maximilian, 2008). Islamic Finance Response to Crisis Principles of Islamic Finance The first principle has an effect on the depositors à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"behaviour and their decision-making process. The choice of action is based not only on the immediate financial returns but also on those returns in the hereafter. Since Islamic banks operate on an interest-free basis and their establishment is designed to improve Muslim communities. In the case of the second principle that involves wealth, Islam has given a clear guideline to be followed by Muslims. The essence of Islamic finance summarised by the Charles FÃÆ' ¨vre, 2006 is as following: Interest rate, taking or receiving on transactions is prohibited. Capital must have a social and ethical purpose further than pure, unfettered return; Investments in those businesses which are dealing with alcohol, gambling, drugs or anything else that the Sharià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ah considers unlawful and unwanted, are prohibited. Transactions involving masir (speculation or gambling); gharar, or uncertainty about the subject-matter and terms of contracts are forbidden which includes a prohibition on selling something that one does not own. As the interest-earning on investments are restricted, Islamic banks obtain their earnings through profit-sharing investments or fee-based returns (Charles FÃÆ' ¨vre, 2006). Traditionally an Islamic bank offers two kinds of services: firstly; it provides services for those on a fee or a fixed charge, such as safe deposits, fund transfer, trade financing, property sales and purchases or handling investments (IBID). Secondly; those that involves joint ventures in investments and the sharing of profits and losses (Charles FÃÆ' ¨vre, 2006). REASEARCH METHODOLOGY Methodology is a set of tools, techniques, procedures and investigative methods, used to collect, store, analyse and present information. Scientific methodology involves the development of hypotheses and predictions, investigating the manipulation of particular variables while maintaining all other variables constant, using measurable, objective measures and statistical analyses in order to come to conclusions about the topic under investigationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬â€œ (inspiritive.com, 2009). Research can be defined as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“something that people undertake in order to find out things in a systematic way, thereby increasing their knowledgeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬? (Saunders et al, 2003). Research methods are the means by which knowledge is acquired and constructed within a discipline. It needs to be both relevant and rigorous in order to be accepted as legitimate within a particular field of knowledge (Harvey Myers, 1995).whereas Leedy Research methodology can be explained as the process ca rried out to achieve the overall aim and objectives of the research (Saunders et al, 2003). What does Research Methodology Include? The research methodology involves primary data and secondary data. The primary data collected are more consistent with our research questions and research objectives. With the help of primary data the reasons behind consumer behaviour, management decisions or problems faces in internationalisation efforts can be identified (Ghauri Gronhaug, 2005). According to Hussey and Hussey, (1997, pg.149) à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¢original data is known as primary data, which is data collected at sourceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬â€œ. Primary research provides information and data which doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"t already exist. Some of the methods of primary data collection include: Focus groups, Interviews, Observation and Questionnaires (Saunders et al, 2003). According to Saunders et al., (2007, pg.272) à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“data that have already been collected for some other purpose, perhaps processed and subsequently stored, are termed secondary dataà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬?. Data can be collected internally or externally from the available materials for literature. These materials come from books, journals, articles, research papers, conference proceedings, newspapers, theses and internet sources. It includes both quantitative and qualitative data and they can be used in both descriptive and explanatory research. Within business and management research such data are used mostly in case study and survey-type research (Saunders et al, 2003). Research Methods Generally available methodological options for Research are two: qualitative research and quantitative research (Ticehurst Veal, 2000). Qualitative Research The purpose of qualitative research is to describe a certain process or problem, to interpret a particular problem and to develop new theoretical concepts and perspectives, to verify the validity of certain problem, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the chosen particular problem (Leedy, 2005). The qualitative analysis based on meaning expressed through words, symbols, interpretations, actions and behaviour (Thornhill et al, 2003). Quantitative research Generally, quantitative research is used to answer the question about relationships among measured variables with the purpose of explaining, predicting, and controlling phenomenon ( Leedy Ormord, 2005). Whereas, Thornhill et al, (2003) stated that in quantitative analysis, the data is based on meanings from numbers. The collection results in numerical and standardised data and the analysis are conducted through the use of diagrams and statistics (Thornhill et al, 2003). The aim of the project can be viewed as qualitative, explanatory, and comparative. To fulfil these aims, the study intends to use the qualitative comparative research strategy (Bryman Bell, 2003). As Leedy Ormrod (2005) noted that qualitative researchers commonly use triangulation for the validation of the research. Comparative Analysis Given the options, qualitative research will be carried out where the literature to be reviewed will be mainly secondary data. The results obtained from the data can be validated by using the above mentioned strategies and comparative analysis which is suggested by Leedy Ormrod (2005) to fulfil the requirements of research. As the Max Weber (1968) also develop approach for social and economical analysis based on comparative method to identify that the researcher plays primary role in outlining research questions, categorizing elements of analysis, and the topics for comparison rather than assuming an objective separation of the researcher and data, as he is of the view that this kind of approach does not confuse researcherà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"s conceptualization of the under research phenomenon and phenomenon itself. Comparative analysis facilitates researcher to investigate the problem from a recognized starting point and the investigate other aspects of the object during analysis (Weber , M., 1968 cited in: Google, 2009) Data Collections and Methods In order to achieve the aims and objectives of the research a series of the reviews will be conducted on available literature on Islamic Finance and Conventional finance, particularly the Islamic securities. Islamic source of finance, Al- Quran, Sunnaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"ah, Shariaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"a Laws, and Hadiths books have been taken into account to get information about the Islamic financial principles, and the regulations which are applicable to the finance. This research is based on secondary data which is collected by using research techniques, procedures and instruments such as 1. Journals 2. Books 3. Libraryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"s web based services such as ABI/Inform, Proquest system, Jstor, Emerald. 4. Newspapers 5. Internet and internet article As qualitative comparative analysis will allow the researcher to outline the research objectives and categorizing the elements of the analysis and the choice of selection of the topic to analyse. The comparative analysis will helpful throughout the research to investigate the selected topic from a recognised point and researcher will be able to investigate the other aspect of the analysis. The methodology will be persuaded towards an approach in order to analyse appraise views on the Islamic financial system and Islamic securities in detail as an alternative to the traditional financial system in the context of current financial crisis by presenting and discussing with supervisor as to how he see the future of Islamic and traditional banking following the direction in which it is undertaken. LIMITATIONS This research may have few limitations The main concern is the collection of basic qualitative data from reliable sources mainly from university web based sources and Google scholar search materials; the challenge will be the identification of the reliable sources as often there will be situation where the results can vary from source to source. Sorting the reliable data from since the resources have vast options and all of them might not be having the same facts and figures which will be may required more time than expected in research process. Another limitation that may occur and cause the research to be narrowed and summed up sooner is for the research to miss out on some useful information which would be useful if taken under consideration. As for the vastness of the topic it is a concern that could be distracting as religious validities can be possible but main focus will be managed throughout the research. This research is a qualitative comparative analysis which is depending on the secondary data that may lead research to be limited as collection of data is generally more time consuming and the time is limited and it is not possible to studied wide range of literature which can make difficult to make a systematic conclusion. Drawn Conclusion Comparison of the both system (Islamic Financial System and Conventional Financial System, major will be the Islamic financial securities and conventional bonds) will formed the ground for the conclusion depending on the information gathered from research.

Free Essays - Analysis of Kate Chopins The Storm :: Chopin Storm Essays

The short story â€Å"The Storm† by Kate Chopin, deals with the subject of adultery. The story takes place in the early 1900’s. There are two main characters, Calixta (the wife) and Alcee (the former lover). Alcee must take refuge from a passing storm in Calixta’s house, while he is there the two end up making love while Calixta’s husband and son have to wait out the storm at the local store. By doing this Chopin implies the theme that is, adultery is natural and does not necessarily have negative consequences. Through out the story the constant changing of imagery plays a great role in the development of characters and their ability to demonstrate the theme. The subject of adultery was first introduced soon after Alcee asked Calixta if he may take refuge from the approaching storm within her house. That was also the first point when the author lets us know that Calixta â€Å"may† still have feelings for Alcee. This was shown clearly in the story when it says, â€Å" His voice and her own startled her as if from a trance†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Immediately after this the description of the setting changed from a outdoor relax feel to an indoor tense feel. This also lead to the feelings of both characters towards each other, which was shown when the room was described, â€Å" The door stood open, and the room with its white, monumental bed, its closed shutters, looked dim and mysterious.†Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Soon after this, Calixta who is then feeling the situation gets up to look outside the window, as not to keep looking at Alcee for she knows what may come of it. Alcee then also gets up to look out the window so that he may stand close to Calixta, which shows how Alcee wants to be with her. While Calixta is looking out the window she sees that it is raining hard and there is strong winds and lightning, which clearly signifies how mixed up Calixta’s feelings for Alcee are at that moment. After this Alcee grabs Calixta close to him as she staggers back, she then retreats and immediately asks where her son may be. This also shows that Calixta is having mixed feelings with the situation. Which is the reason she gets loose but does not tell Alcee to control himself but yet like nothing had happened wonders where her son may be, â€Å" Bonte! She cried, releasing herself from his arms encircling arms and retreating to the window†¦ If I only knew were Bibi was!†Ã‚

Improving Russia And Russian People Lives History Essay

The period 1853-153 was a clip of dramatic alteration in Russia ; it started the period as a traditional Autocracy with Tsar Alexander germinating into a absolutism under the regulation of Stalin. John Clare argues that the period of 1917-1921 was the most important period of bettering the political, societal, foreign personal businesss and economic stance of Russia as a state every bit good as the Russian people ‘s lives as he says that the imperium is ‘vast ‘[ 1 ]and depict the old authorities ‘ineffectual ‘[ 2 ]. To some extent this period was the biggest for alteration but non needfully the most for betterment. Whereas a alteration brought approximately within the period 1917-1921 may hold been good under Lenin ‘s regulation for the people it may non hold had a positive impact on Russia as a state. On the other manus Stalin ‘s extremist Five Year Plans pushed the Russian people to their bound ; it institutionalised Russia along with the o ther European states. The discontent of the people was besides a major issue for the people populating in Russia. The political stance of the state is of major importance in prolonging a stable authorities. In the old ages 1917-1921 the political stance changed in Russia well as in 1917 the first probationary authorities was established which was a immense bend in events that came as a consequence of the depletion of the parlements as they where exiled in 1917 after the blackwash of Nicholas III. Graham Darby argues that ‘the move from the monarchy was a representation of Russia ‘s ruin as a state in the eyes of the remainder of the universe ‘[ 3 ]. This suggests that the remotion of the monarchy was had a negative impact on the state hereby demoing that the old ages 1917-1921 were non the most important in bettering the lives of the Russian people because in the short term the Russian people believed that the move from autarchy would be a positive measure as they ab initio introduced many reforms such as freedom of imperativeness, address and no favoritism due to nationality o r faith and the abolishment of the decease punishment. This improved the lives of the Russian people as it gave them more freedom and a less rough judicial system. However, in the long term this was non a positive move for Russia as a state as it meant that Russia was giving up a batch of it ‘s control to the people through these reforms as Graham Darby argues that ‘it was non reasonable for the authorities to strip itself of coercive power in a clime of turning noncompliance ‘[ 4 ]. This shows how in the long term the move from off from the monarchy was non important in footings of betterment because it proved soberly unpopular and resistance rose dramatically in 1917 and the life of the probationary authorities was short lived. On the other manus, Andy Holland argues that the ruin of the probationary authorities was down to that ‘it could non mask the fact that it was unelected, unrepresentative and basically the old guard in camouflage ‘[ 5 ]. This suggests that the debut of the probationary authorities was non important in bettering Russia and the lives of the Russian people as it was non really a measure frontward, it was simply a bossy authorities feigning to be a extremist new way. Graham Drby argues the probationary authorities ‘was shortly to give up this support by neglecting to work out the states jobs ‘[ 6 ]. Meaning that in the long term the debut of the probationary authorities was non important in bettering the lives of the Russian people as it grew progressively unpopular as the people where able to take control of Russia through ‘a complex web of regional metropolis and suburban Sovietss ‘[ 7 ]that ‘were elected to stand for workers and in some countr ies soldiers and provincials ‘[ 8 ]is was shortly evident that ‘the probationary authorities was no longer in control ‘[ 9 ]proposing that a revolution was inevitable. Furthermore, by presenting the probationary authorities lead by Kerensky was important because there was increasing force per unit area from the Russian people due to the illustration of other states being under a more democratic regulation. This was shown in the 1917 revolution when monolithic work stoppages and presentations took topographic point throughout the capital when Nicholas was sing military personnels on the front line. James White argues that ‘popular discontent would climax in a revolution that would brush away the bing order ‘[ 10 ]this suggests that revolution was of considerable menace to the monarchy. Some historiographers argue the manner Nicholas handled the event was the most important because he failed to take the advice of his advisers and I his ‘arrogance ‘[ 11 ]failed to gain the tremendous menace the revolution imposed. The significance in the debut of the probationary authorities was one of the first stairss in accomplishing a more democratic state. This improved the lives of the Russian people in the short term due to the addition in the Russian people ‘s freedom. However in the long-run this was non the instance because the probationary authoritiess regulation was short lived due to its unpopularity Furthermore, Alternatively of stoping Russia ‘s engagement in World War I, the new authorities launched a fresh offense against the German and Austro-Hungarian ground forcess in July 1917, thereby weakening its popularity among Russia ‘s war-weary people. Some historiographers argue this was the probationary authorities ‘s biggest ruin as Andy Holland argues that it highlighted ‘how small authorization the Duma had ‘[ 12 ]. By concentrating on Russia ‘s foreign policy as many of the Russian people where discontented over the war and did non desire any more engagement. This was due to the immense impact the war had already had on Russia because it had crippled Russia financially and left the province of Russia insecure in the populaces eyes as it had lost considerable land and the people where populating in famine and complete poorness due to holding to provide nutrient for the military personnels contending the war. On the other manus other histori ographers argued that the authorities was ‘strongly committed to the war ‘[ 13 ]as there was a ‘strong loyal divide among the center and upper category ‘[ 14 ], they besides wanted to consolidate their relationship with Britain and France. In add-on they were conserved that ‘defeat ‘[ 15 ]would take to ‘the prostration of the imperium ‘[ 16 ]Russia was besides hindered by the overpowering decease rate the war imposed. This shows how the period of 1917-21 was non the most important in bettering the lives of the Russian people because in the short term because Russia lost '32 per cent of its cultivable land, 26 per cent of its railroad systems and 33 per cent of its mills, 75 per centum of its coal Fe ore mines and about 60 million citizens ‘[ 17 ]. Ultimately some historiographers argue that it was linins finding to suspire the pact of Brest lidos in March 1918 that lead to the out interruption of the civil war between reds and Wh ites. In comparing to the period 1917-1921, Russell Sherman and Robert Pearce would reason that the 'emancipation of the helot ‘[ 18 ]had a really assorted reaction and appeared to be better for the provincials than it really was because they proclaim ‘there was small rejoicing ‘[ 19 ]non merely in the short term but in the long term as the provincials did n't ‘grow much fonder of the footings of the edict as clip passed ‘[ 20 ]. In add-on Russell Sherman besides argues that ‘the landlords were far from content ‘[ 21 ]. This suggests that in both the long and short term the emancipation of the helot left a batch to be desired for as it failed to delight any sectors of the Russian population, peculiarly Polish landlord in western states as they were thought to be ‘a thorn in Russia ‘s side with their demands for independency ‘[ 22 ]. However this was besides a motion that was brought on by the provincials as Graham derby argues tha t ‘Alexander II warned the aristocracy in 1856 that it would be better if emancipation came from above instead than below ‘[ 23 ]. This was an of import measure in bettering the lives of the Russian people in the long term as it gave the Russian people a sense of freedom as it ‘removed the helot from the control of the aristocracy ‘[ 24 ]and ownership over their ain land. On the other manus in the short term this was non an betterment for the Russian people was there was a ‘false sense of freedom ‘[ 25 ]which resulted in ‘breeding disdain ‘[ 26 ]. This was because although the provincials where given land, it resulted in the provincials holding ‘less land than they had to cultivate before ‘[ 27 ]ensuing in an increased rate of dearth and malnutrition. It besides caused ‘resentment ‘[ 28 ]amongst the Nobles as they lost ‘one tierce of their land ‘[ 29 ]. The Emancipation of the helot was a consequence of the Crimean war as it exposed Russia as a backwards state in comparing with the remainder of Europe. The emancipation of the helot resulted in a decreased political function for the aristocracy at a local degree taking to the creative activity of zemstva intending members of local authorities now had to be elected. On the other manus, Richard pipes argues that the October revolution was ‘disguised ‘[ 30 ]as a ‘offensive action behind a fume screen of defense mechanisms ‘[ 31 ], as ‘all hopes for a peaceable development of the Russian revolution ‘[ 32 ]had ‘disappeared without a hint ‘[ 33 ]significance that the move from autarchy to communist absolutism was non a smooth one nevertheless, it could be viewed that this event was important in bettering Russia and the lives of its people because it brought the Bolsheviks into power and remarkably for Russia ‘food was plentiful and it showed in the rose-colored cheeks of the metropolis ‘s abode ‘[ 34 ]. The debut of Lenin and the Bolshevik party was besides important in the context of 1853-1953 in bettering Russia and the lives of the Russian people because after a series of revolutions and turbulence in Russia the Bolsheviks took control in October 1917. The significance of this was t hat it introduced alterations that where much needed in Russia through the debut of war communism which was introduced to eliminate the economic jobs brought on by the civil war. This was important in bettering Russian people ‘s lives as nationalising was introduced to seek and better dearth. In add-on, Russia ‘s plummeted into civil war in 1917-21 stemmed from Russia ‘s engagement in the First World War and the revolution in Russia that twelvemonth as Orlando Figes argues that it was simply ‘two work forces at the caput of a motion ‘[ 35 ]that could ‘not halt themselves from junior-grade quibbling ‘[ 36 ]. Many historiographers believe that it was Kerensky ‘s Petrograd offense that leads to its eruption. The consequence this had on Russia was that it humiliated the Bolshevik party and the repute of the Russian ground forces every bit weak as they lost to an ground forces considered to be far more inferior. It brought about a new manner of governing to Russia and brought to linins attending that there was much needed methodicalness, trust, chumminess and trueness. This was demonstrated in the militaristic attack to authorities such as the debut of war communism doing divisions among the party and a move off from freer being used a s a method of control. The pact of Brest Litovsk introduced in 1918 was important in bettering Russia and the lives of the Russian people because it was a measure towards peace with the remainder of Europe which Lenin enthusiastically signed after he sourly negotiated the footings with the Bolshevik members due to a deficiency of a German opposite number being described as an ‘organisational catastrophe ‘[ 37 ]. This was besides a important foreign policy because Russia urgently needed to avoid war as the economical deductions would be excessively sedate. On the other manus, the short term effects of the pact left the Russian people experiencing cheated as the dialogues left Russia without Riga, Lithuania, Livonia, Estonia and portion of White Russia missing from its immense imperium. Which was of ‘great economic importance ‘[ 38 ]as it was ‘some of the most fertile farming country in western Russia ‘[ 39 ]. Robert service argues ‘the left socialist revolutionists to accept the separate peace pushed under the olfactory organs of the cardinal powers ‘[ 40 ]. Proposing that the pact had a important impact on Russia negatively nevertheless some historian argues that it was used to ‘buy clip ‘[ 41 ]instead than complete peace. The pact of Brest Lidos was a consequence of Russia ‘s failure in the First World War and was thought to ‘cripple Russia economically ‘[ 42 ]every bit good as the heavy decease rate brought on by this ‘military distaster ‘[ 43 ]triping the move from autarchy to communism. This event was non important in bettering the lives of the Russian people because ‘moral was highly hapless ‘[ 44 ]. Some historiographers blamed the failure of the war due to the deficiency of administration within the state and struggle between the czar and authorities which resulted in ‘poor and fickle nutrient supplies ‘[ 45 ]every bit good as a military dislocation in the production and distribution of arms. This was antagonised by the rail workers work stoppage in Petrograd in 1916. On the other manus some historiographers argue that it was the Nazi Soviet treaty that was the most important for foreign policy in bettering Russia and the lives of the Russian people because discolorations concern over Germany occupying the Russian Soviet lead him to subscribe the ‘anti fascist ‘[ 46 ]confederation. This was used in order to seek and unite Europe hoping to forestall an invasion that Russia was non willing to fix for. This had a positive consequence on Russia as it well improved Russia ‘s relationship with the remainder of Europe and improved Europe position of Russia as it was the first clip that Russia was recognised as an indispensable portion of other states foreign policy. However the Crimean war 1853-6 showed the Russian military during the war coupled with the judicial admissions of the pact of Paris led to public treatment about the hereafter of the Russian imperium. A important figure of Russians, particularly those know as Slavophil questioned how great Russia truly was. Many historiographers argue that it damaged Russia ‘s repute as a universe power. Following the Crimean war a tough pact was imposed o Russia as Russia had to give up its claims to move as the defender of the princedoms. And Russia had to hold to hank a significant ball of Bessarabia to mol prima donna. Most significantly Russia was prohibited from keeping a fleet in the black sea and had to take all naval munitions along the black sea seashore line. This was important diminishing Russia ‘s repute and humiliated them globally. The Russo Turkish war lead to the pact of san Stefano between Russia and Meleagris gallopavo giving south Bessarabia lost in the Crimean war and doing significant territorial additions in the Caucasus and coercing Russia to pay a war insurance. Although this pact was good to Russia in comparing with many of its pacts this was short lived as the conditions offended Austria hungry and Britain taking to Russia organizing a peace conference in beryline with German Chancellor of the Exchequer Bismarck. As the New York Times declared that ‘there is no uncertainty that, like the lickings and losingss of the Crimean war, this great catastrophe will bring forth an first-class consequence ‘[ 47 ]. The debut of war communism was non the most of import economic reform in this period. The reform was introduced by Lenin in order to ‘combat the economic jobs brought on by the civil war ‘[ 48 ]nevertheless it was frequently described as a catastrophe because in all countries, the economic strength of Russia fell below the 1914 degree ‘[ 49 ]. War communism brought about the nationalization of land which seting all land under province control and doing private ownership really limited going an extension of the edict on land get rid ofing all private ownership without compensation as a consequence of communist political orientation. This event did non better the lives of the Russian people because as the provincials learnt that the excess nutrient that they grew would be taken off by the province with no compensation they began to merely turn plenty nutrient to feed themselves, doing a quickly turning rate of dearth, malnutrition and disease in urban countries of Rus sia. Efficaciously taking away the freedom which was introduced thought the emancipation of the helot in 1861. On the other manus there was some betterment under Lenin ‘s regulation as Edward Carr believed ‘the NEP was basically unstable and the demands f the modern economic system made some province planning necessary ‘[ 50 ]. However, Robert Tucker supports the position that ‘the NEP could hold been compatible with long-run economic development without the disruption caused by Stalin ‘[ 51 ]. The alterations to Russia ‘s economic system under the regulation of Lenin were introduced through the nationalization of land and industry. Pressures from the war forced the Bolshevik authorities to turn to war communism when structuring the states economic system. Some historiographers would see Lenin ‘s debut of ‘the NEP as a contradiction of his earlier aspirations ‘[ 52 ]. There chief purposes were to redistribute wealth among Russians and to provide nutrient to the towns and ground forcess. This proved harsh on the Russian people as there was a rigorous work subject and provincials being forced to give up nutrient to the authorities or being forced to confront the fire squad. This shows how the period of 1917-21 was non the most important in bettering the lives of the Russian people in the short term because ‘over 7 million people died through withstanding the authorities ‘[ 53 ]in different ways such as: provincials declining to give up thei r nutrient ensuing in them being murdered, nutrient deficits taking to famine ensuing in people ensuing to cannibalism as a beginning of endurance. This had small long term effects because it was ever intended as a impermanent solution. The economic stance of Russia is described by toilet Laver as the cardinal index of continuity and alteration. As under the tsarist regulation it had a provincial based economic system which john laver argues as ‘technologically backwards ‘[ 54 ]. This suggests that the period under the opinion of the czar was non important for bettering Russia as a state and the Russian people as a deficiency of construction to the economic system of Russia means the self-generated debut of revenue enhancements and a deficient excess of money. Meaning that this backwards construction to the economic system did small for Russia ‘s repute in being seen as one of Europe ‘s major powers. The authorities had as immense disputing turn toing the harm to the industrial and rural substructure. Much physical harm was caused by both German barrage and entire ‘s adust Earth policy. The Sovietss reconstruction revolved round the 4th five twelvemonth program enchantress was aimed at palling to acquire the Soviet economic system back to growing degrees achieved before the war. One of the steps that Stalin introduced was his 5 twelvemonth programs which were a set of marks that had to be met at the terminal of a five twelvemonth period. Some historiographers argue that this was important in bettering Russia and the lives of the Russian people as it ‘provided a base for farther economic development ‘[ 55 ]this suggests that the debut of five twelvemonth programs was important in bettering some countries of Russia but non others as there was ‘a major diminution in agricultural end product ‘[ 56 ]. On the other manus this event was non important in bet tering the lives of the Russian people because ‘the Russian provincials gained little from what modernization at that place was ‘[ 57 ]as they were radically effected by this dictators ambitious programs. Due to the ‘great economic, societal and human disruption ‘[ 58 ]. In the long term these programs where non successful in bettering Russia and the lives of the Russian people because of its rough top-down theoretical account of the economic system and the fact that it was inflexible, inefficient and inaugural through the usage of rough marks. At the start of the clip period 1853 the economic system of Russia was mostly peasant based with low degrees of productiveness. This was chiefly due to the ‘inflexible societal construction ‘[ 59 ]and the ‘lack of investing into bettering its industry ‘[ 60 ]. The productiveness and deficiency of industrialization was non ‘aided by Russia ‘s geographical location ‘[ 61 ]. Under the regulation of the tsarist monarchy and Lenin little changed in footings of its industrial art. However, with Stalin ‘s rein has been described as a turning point for Russia ‘s economic system and in footings of being seen as a major power within Europe. In decision, the grounds suggests that although the period of 1917 to 1921 is a period of considerable alteration it is clear that the lives of the Russian people improved somewhat. But the most considerable betterment to Russia as a state was under Stalin ‘s regulation as it ensured Russia was seen as a major European power through the betterments to it ‘s conveyance system within the state and to the manner it exported goods besides through to immense rise in productiveness due to the infamously cruel to the people ; five twelvemonth programs.
